FAQ

Here are some answers to the most frequent asked questions about proxy servers:

Is it legal to use public proxy servers?

It depends. Depends on what your country allows you to do. Some countries have strict rules about it, some don't. Legally, you should ask the proxy owner if you can use it, but as they're made public, it means everybody is allowed to connect to it, like every public webserver. I can't really answer this question with a yes or no, you should read your country's rules about that.

Are public proxy servers safe?

Proxy servers are made for protecting your anonymity on the internet. There are 3 types of proxies depending on their security level. There's transparent proxies, anonymous and high anonymous. By using a high anonymous proxy server, you should be completely anonymous on the internet. But, as with every other type of proxy, there are malicious modifications of the public proxy servers that steal the data it receives, so if you're sending sensitive data, it should be sent only to trusted proxies.

What is the difference between Socks4/Socks5 and a normal proxy?

The difference is, that normal proxies are used to browse the web anonymously, because they support the HTTP protocol. While the Socks proxies are usually used for internet-based applications that use other protocols like IRC, MSN, etc...
