Web Proxy

A web proxy is a special kind of proxy, which let you surf the web from a website. You don't need any IP and port to configure your browser. All you have to do is enter the url, like on your search bar, and the web proxy will grab the contant you want.

There are two most used web proxy scripts. CGI Proxy and PHProxy. The difference between the two is the programming language in which they are scripted, and their functionality. CGI Proxy has better support for JavaScript, and is usually faster than PHProxy. The bad side of the CGI web proxy is that it uses more server resources, which worries webmasters that pay for the service. From the user point of view, CGI proxy is in my opinion a better choice. There are ofcourse some exceptions, when web proxy webmasters modify the PHProxy to be safer, and add better functionality.

Web proxy sites are usually used by students and workers, to access the websites their school or boss blocked the access to.

Below is a short and simplified explaination on how web proxy sites work:
The user enters a web address, to request a document from a server. The web proxy then grabs the content the user requested, changes every link in the document source, to point back to the web proxy, and displays the content to the user. So if the user clicks a link on the page he requested over the web proxy, the requested content will also go through the proxy. Using this technology, the web proxy sites allow you to anonymously request any internet document.
